From Contempt to Curiosity

Caitlin Walker's new book about using Clean Language and Systemic Modelling to encourage the conditions for collaboration.

Caitlin was born in Nigeria, with an American mother and a British father. By the time she was 9 years old she’d lived in three continents and had had to learn three very different ways of being in the world.

As a young adult, Caitlin went on to study anthropology and linguistics to uncover how people shared rules, created norms and negotiated living together.

When she met David Grove and discovered that Clean Language was a process for enquiring into other people’s unconscious rules and experiences, she decided to leave her studies and to focus on how to use Clean Language with groups. She found that using Clean Language promoted self-awareness and an acceptance of others. She used it to help diverse individuals develop the skills needed to create shared goals and work more effectively together to achieve them.

This book is the story of how she brought this approach to difficult teenagers, the long term unemployed, business managers, lecturers and then to whole organisations. It tells how she moved from facilitating groups to supporting groups to become self-facilitating and creating the conditions required for systemic, sustainable change. It tells stories of when the approach worked well and when it really didn’t. Along the way you will discover the skills and philosophy behind the approach so you can begin applying Systemic Modelling in your own practice.
