There is a games room and wireless broadband, and plenty of off-road parking. There are 2 pubs close by and you can walk along the sea wall to the Gosport Ferry, which takes you over to Portsmouth.

The Local Area

If you are joining us for the complete facilitator training in September 2011, you will have two free days (separately) in the middle of the course. Here are some suggestions of things to do in the local area:

There are a couple of beaches in the area: Stokes Bay and Lee-on-Solent. They are both a short drive away, or you could get the ferry over to Portsmouth and walk along Southsea beach.

For shopping we recommend taking the ferry to Portsmouth, which has a much wider selection of shops than Gosport. There are three main shopping areas: the City Centre; Gunwharf Quays (outlets) and Palmerston Road/Marmion Road in Southsea.

There are several museums in the area, mainly military based. These include HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the Royal Marines museum in Portsmouth, and the Submarine museum and Explosion! in Gosport. There is also a hovercraft museum in Gosport.

Or you could take a cruise on the Gosport Ferry, which as well as the crossing to Portsmouth also does trips around the harbour.

We will have a range of tourist information leaflets available.

By Rail:

  • Gosport does not have a train station; the nearest ones are either Fareham or Portsmouth Harbour.
  • From Fareham you will need to take a taxi to the venue (4.7 miles / 15 minutes)
  • From Portsmouth Harbour station (not Portsmouth and Southsea), you can get the Gosport Ferry (turn left out of the station and the ferry terminal is just a couple of minutes walk away).
  • The ferry runs every 15 minutes from 5.30am till midnight, and every 7.5 minutes during peak times. The cost is £2.40 for a daily adult return ticket. The journey takes about 5 minutes.
  • When you leave the ferry, take a taxi to the venue (2.5 miles / 8 minutes). Or follow the walking directions below.

Walking from the Gosport Ferry

  • Leave the ferry, walk through the gardens and turn right into Mumby Road. (The Castle View pub will be on your right and you'll see a sign to the Explosion! Museum. Also, on the pavement there is a special pattern. This is the Millennium Walk (MW). Keep following both the walk - which disappears temporarily - and the signs.)
  • Turn right into Weevil Lane; keep following the signs and the walk.
  • At the end of this road you will come to a bridge. Cross the bridge and then walk straight ahead.
  • Take a short-cut through the grounds of the museum if it is open (10am to 5pm). Otherwise, turn left along Heritage Way and follow the road round the side of the museum.
  • Keep going straight on when you leave the museum, using the pedestrianised route by the sea wall. Heritage Way will become Priory Road.
  • Keep walking, past The Jolly Roger on your left.
  • When you get to the junction of Priory Road and Castle View, The Dairy House is on the corner.
  • This walk is 1.8 miles.
